Hi Everyone who has been inquiring about Jim Stickney. He was a dear friend of mine. Sadly, Jim is no longer with us. He lived in Honolulu for many years, then moved to Palm Springs in the 90′s. He was a wonderful, kind and sweet dear friend. A short history — Born in Duluth, he eventually moved to Hollywood where he painted murals for private patrons and occassionally did “extra” work in movies. After many years there, he moved with his best friend Hilmar Hanson to a beautiful house on the shore in Niu Valley. Later he moved to a town house in Hawaii Kai. His drawings of a little girl and boy are his best known work — done circa 1973 — it was commissioned by the Moana Surfrider Hotel in Waikiki. Each room was adorned with these drawings. Jim was a talented and prolific painter who was popular with a small group of local patrons…unfortunately, he never achieve a wide following for he was overshadowed by the more popular Peggy Hopper. I am so glad his name still lives and his art appreciated. God Bless to eveyone who sees beauty in his art.
Aloha! That is a very sad thing to hear. I had a long time ago purchased two pieces that were both signed Hansen-Stickney. It is so hard to find any info on them. I didnt pay much for the two but I love them both. Is there anyway of finding out more on the work that I have? Is there anyway of maybe contacting Hilmar Hansen for information? Thank you so much for your reply and for your help in shedding light on your friends lifes work. I can be reached on my email at Kaia_hi@yahoo.com
Mahalo for your time and help!
